Hay-on-Wye
Hay-on-Wye (or just “Hay”) is the nearest town to the Cruck. It’s a lovely old market town which is always nice for a wander. It is well known for it’s impressive amount of second hand book shops and is famous for the annual Hay Festival.
Hay Castle
The castle has been recently renovated and has a beautiful, grassy courtyard which is perfect for a picnic (especially if you can bag a few of the deck chairs). There is also an impressive viewing platform which is worth a look. Inside there is a cafe and some medieval fancy dress for the kids.
There is a beautiful castle in the centre which they are currently restoring. There are good pubs and eateries around Hay and you can also find some good local produce. There are some nice old vintage shops where you can find a bargain. You should also try Shepherd’s ice cream if you have a sweet tooth!
As well as being good for general bumbling, you will find all the usual conveniences such as the Co op which is just on the other side of the town.
